Liverpool midfielder and Team Argentina skipper Javier Mascherano (pictured) and Bayern Munich’s Mark van Bommel are poised for a return in the FTBL Top 23 of the world’s best midfielders after World Cup 2010 qualifiers this week.

Liverpool’s Dutch forward Dirk Kuyt ended the season with a rating of 206.54 points, the best in the English Premier League as it stands. His nearest rival, Teammate Fernando Torres, is only second with 192.96 points over all.

Manchester United’s Edwin van der Sar has lost his top spot in the FTBL rating of world best goalkeepers to Liverpool’s Jose Reina after losing 17 rating points in the lost final against Barcelona.

Manchester United’s main attack weapon Wayne Rooney will attempt to forget his recent relative lack of form and, as Thierry Henry in the opposite side, reclaim the top spot in the FTBL rating of English players in tonight’s Champions League final.
