Panathinaikos’ Greece internationals Konstantinos Katsouranis (pictured right) and Giorgios Karagounis (left) remain locked in a drawn-out battle for the top spot in the FTBL ranking of Greek midfielders.
Katsouranis, who has played for Portugal’s Benfica, is currently sitting at the top of our list with an overall FTBL score of 79.37 points, while Karagounis is not far behind at 62.99 points.
As Greece are locked in a battle with Ukraine for a berth in the coming World Cup in South Africa, Karagounis was able to reduce the gap with Katsouranis by 2 rating points after game 1 of the playoff with Ukraine (0:0).
Going into game 2, Katsouranis will face a plank of 14 rating points to beat in the FTBL system, while Karagounis will have to clear a hurdle of just 8 rating points. A change in the leadership in our ranking of Greek midfielders could therefore very well happen after Wednesday’s game.
