It has been coming for a while and now it has happened: Bosnian Edin Dzeko has hit the top of the world ratings with 219.73 points. The Wolfsburg striker was again on the score-sheet in his latest match – this time against Borussia Moenchengladbach, so extending his goalscoring series to four matches and gaining a further 27.90 points.
Dzeko was helped to a certain extent by his main rival, who did not have a successful weekend. Klaas Jan Huntelaar, who had led the list of the world’s best players for a long time, lost 18.07 as a result of Real Madrid’s match against Valladolid. This was because he was unable to surpass the 30.86 points he had earned for his two goals against Atletico Bilbao on 14 March. And Huntelaar’s slide may well continue in the next three games: the Dutchman will need no less than 30 points in each of them, which will require a massive effort on his part.
