Manchester United’s goalkeeper Edwin van der Sar returned into the World Top 23 rating of goalkeepers after his side’s 5:2 demolition of Tottenham Hotspur at Old Trafford on Saturday. The Dutch international now has 132.42 points over all, second only to Real Madrid keeper Iker Casillas (147.93 points).
The 38-year-old, despite conceding 2 goals in the game, moved up with a gain of 10 rating points: the bonus earned by the team for their big win added to the rating point van der Sar lost in the 0:2 loss to Fulham.
Jens Lehmann, another veteran goalkeeper, also moved up in the rating with a gain of 19.10 rating on Saturday. Lehmann helped Stuttgart win 2:0 against Eintracht Frankfurt in Bundesliga action. His performance helped erase some of the bad memory left after his abysmal show on March 15 against Werder Bremen; he conceded 4 goals then. Lehmann now has 103.11 rating points.
