There was a great deal for the fans to enjoy in the Italian championship last weekend: the first goal of the year for Ronaldinho (pictured), another goal for the ageless Filippo Inzaghi, and, finally, a hat-trick by Sergio Pellissier, who has virtually single-handedly ended the “Old Lady”’s title hopes.
It is now not so far-fetched to suggest that AC Milan could overhaul Juventus to claim second place – the gap is now down to 5 points.
Carlo Ancelotti’s team beat Lecce 2-0, the game being decided in the last few minutes. First to score was Ronaldinho, whose last goal in a rating match was on 30 November last year in the match against Palermo (1-3). Ronaldinho has improved his rating as a result of ending his goal drought: he now has 85.62 points – still not enough to be included in the top 23 Brazilian players.
And a few moments before the final whistle Filippo Inzaghi scored his 8th goal in the championship, so returning to the Top 23 in Italy. Inzaghi has 149.22 points.
In another match Juventus and Chievo put on a real show, with Pellissier playing the leading role for the team from Verona. He twice put his team in front, and in the last minute his goal saved Chievo from defeat. His reward is a place in the Top 23 Italian players with 125.14 points, nearly 40 of them gained in this match.
With eight games to go Juve trail Inter by 9 points, and the pace at which the “Nerazzurri” are marching towards the championship, it is unlikely that anyone will catch them.
