Andrei Arshavin was not the only shining star last night at Anfield Road: Liverpool forward Fernando Torres’ talent was likewise on full display, helping his team save the day with a double. The Spaniard earned 26.90 rating points in the night, securing a return into the elite World Top 23.
Torres now has 194.03 points and has overtaken David Villa (191.29 points) to top the rating of best Spanish players.
Arsenal keeper Lukasz Fabianski was helpless in the two goals Torres scored: Torres headed his first home at the 49th minute after a cross from Dutch international Dirk Kuyt. Arsenal right-back Bakari Sagna was instrumental when he deflected the ball into Kuyt’s legs. Sagna was once again central 7 minutes later when his missed clearance sent the ball toward his own goal. The French international lost 17.03 rating points in the game and, with 102.91 points, has exited the World Top 23.
Torres scored his second after an excellent assist from Albert Riera. He made quick work of Kolo Toure and fired past Fabianski.
Yossi Benayoun scored the last one for Liverpool after a poor defending effort by the Gunners. The Israeli international earned 22.44 rating points and his now back into the club of best midfielders of the English Premier League with 119.62 points.
