Former France internationals Claude Makelele and Robert Pires, despite being way over 30 years of age, remain quite serious assets for their various teams.
Makelele (pictured right), who is 36, remains as solid as a rock in the midfield at Paris Saint-Germain. Paris Saint-Germain returned form the Stade Gerland in Lyon with a well-deserved 0:0 draw, having forced the reigning French champions to swallow their pride. Makelele picked 10.50 points in the FTBL rating of veterans and is now third in the rating of best over-33 midfielders with 75.32 points over all.
Villarreal’s Pires seems to have left behind his ugly spell, which culminated in a red card in the loss to Almeria (0:3). The 35-year-old Frenchman earned 22.36 points in Villarreal’s 2:1 win over Getafe and is now seventh in the FTBL overall rating of veteran midfielders with 52.72 points.
