Man United defenders Namanja Vidic, Rio Ferdinand (pictured), and Patrice Evra moved to the top three spots of our FTBL Top 23 rating of world best defenders after the Red Devils’ 1:0 win over Arsenal at Old Trafford in the first leg of their Champions League semi-final match. The fact that the Red Devils’ defense conceded not a single goal played a decisive factor in the surge.
Serbian defender Nemanja Vidic now leads in our rating with 142.49 points, followed by his partners in defense Rio Ferdinand with 131.57 points, and right-back Patrice Evra with 122.96 points. Vidic earned a boost of 7.35 rating points in the game, while Ferdinand had 13.81 points, and Evra 12.79 points.
The win also allowed goalkeeper Edwin van der Sar and midfielder Cristiano Ronaldo to boost their ratings: van der Sar earned 9.15 rating points to take his overall number to 140.47 points, maintaining his second spot in the rating of best goalkeepers of the world, while Ronaldo added 8.97 rating points to his already sky-high 230.95 overall number. He remains at the top of the list of best world midfielders.
