Young defender Gerard Pique scored Barcelona’s 100th goal in the recent humiliation of arch-rivals and reigning champions Real Madrid. The goal allowed the young, promising defender to make his entry into the club of best defenders of La Liga according to our FTBL rating.
Pique is a product of Barcelona’s youth football school and the nephew of the club’s vice-president, Amadora Bernabeu. He was sent to the Manchester United youth school in 2004, only to return four years later.
In scoring the sixth goal in the 6:2 mauling of Madrid, Pique earned a modest 8.52 rating points but still managed to grab the sixth position in the rating of defenders in La Liga from Madrid’s Marcelo.
Pique now has a rating of 101.76 points and trails only second-placed Carles Puyol (109.85 points) and first-placed Sergio Ramos (110 points) in rating slices of Spanish players.
