Despite scoring a double and inspiring the Reds to a convincing 3:0 win away at West Ham yesterday, skipper Steven Gerrard (pictured) failed to advance in our FTBL rating: in fact, he lost points.
Gerrard had a high plank of 42.28 rating points to beat (a plank set when Liverpool demolished Aston Villa 5:0 and Gerrard had a hat-trick in Premier League action), and despite a brilliant performance the England international ended up with a loss in rating points.
Gerrard opened the score two minutes into the game when he broke beyond West Ham’s defense and beat goalkeeper Robert Green. He then returned later at the 38th minute with a penalty, which Green almost saved, but the skipper was right on the rebound to send the ball into the net. Ryan Babel rounded up the score with a third in the 84th.
Gerrard now has 164.25 points over all and remains behind United’s Cristiano Ronaldo in our FTBL rating of midfielders in the Premier League. Liverpool are now level with rivals Manchester United on points, with the Red Devils still having two games in hand.
