Barcelona’s super star Lionel Messi (pictured) could re-claim the top spot in the FTBL rating of the world’s best midfielders with a strong performance when Argentina travel to Ecuador for a 2010 World Cup qualifier on June 10.
Messi currently has 193.27 points over all, just about 2 rating points less than current leader, Liverpool’s Steven Gerrard. But he will have to earn at least 17 rating points to earn a bonus.
Meanwhile, Chelsea’s Frank Lampard could well decide to join in the fight for the top spot: with 185.75 points over all, a strong performance in England’s World Cup 2010 qualifier against Andorra on June 10 could land him the top spot instead. Lampard scored against Kazakhstan on June 6, and a goal this time could do the trick.
