The Confed Cup underway in South Africa could be the perfect opportunity for AS Roma midfielder and Italian international Daniele De Rossi (pictured left) to grab the top spot in the FTBL Top 23 of Italian midfielders: with a current rating of 125 points, De Rossi trails the leader, Udinese’s Gaetano D’Agostino, by less than 5 rating points.
With a goal in the opening match against the U.S.(3:1), De Rossi boosted his rating by a whopping 32 points. The huge boost resulted from the 5 rating points he lost in the game against Fiorentina in Serie A action.
De Rossi will have a plank of just 6 rating points to beat in the second game against Egypt. He could then overtake D’Agostino if Italy come out on top, which will be no mean feat, as the Brazil – Egypt game amply demonstrated.
