Tim Cahill (pictured), the Everton Australia international whose second-half double allowed his country to come from behind and beat Japan (2:1) to move five points clear at the top in their World Cup 2010 qualifying group, has extended his lead in the rating of Asian/Oceania midfielders.
The double earned Cahill 13.70 rating points, allowing him to widen the gap with second-placed Makoto Hasebe of Japan, who plays for Wolfsburg. (Hasebe did not take part in the game.) Cahill now has 99.89 points over all, while Hasebe has just 85.13 points.
Manchester United’s South Korea international Park Ji-Sung, who ranks third, also took advantage of Hasebe’s absence to boost his rating to 75.32 points with a goal in a 1:1 draw against Iran in World Cup 2010 qualifying.
