Egypt has been the big stumbling block on the path of big-league teams at the Confed Cup this time around: first, Brazil conceded 3 goals against the pharaohs, finally beating a sympathetic side to the wire (4:3). Then Italy, the reigning World Cup holders, fell 0:1.
Borussia Dortmund’s forward Mohamed Zidan is the great inspiration behind Egypt’s current display. The young forward scored twice against Brazil and was close to doing the same against Egypt.
Zidan has earned 33 rating points to boost his tally to 74 points and grab the lead in our rating of Egyptian players. He will have a plank of a little over 14 rating points to beat against the U.S., and another double will see his rating surge past the 100-point mark.
