Barcelona international midfielder Xavi (pictured) proved utterly powerless as the U.S. put an abrupt end to Spain’s run of 35 unbeaten matches with a 2:0 victory yesterday in the Confed Cup in South Africa. The playmaker saw his rating sink as a consequence.
Xavi lost 22 rating points to see his overall rating shrink to 161 points. He has now been demoted from 3rd to 6th place in the FTBL rating of the world’s best midfielders, something that seemed unimaginable just a few days ago.
Liverpool’s Xabi Alonso, who ranked second in the FTBL rating of Spanish midfielders, suffered the biggest rating upset from the loss to the U.S; he dropped 16 rating points and has slumped to 4th place in the rating of Spanish midfielders.
