Valencia’s otherwise prolific striker and Spain international David Villa saw a perfect chance to top the FTBL Top 23 for Europe slip away as Spain were wrong-footed yesterday by a surprisingly inspired U.S. football team and sent crashing out of the Confed Cup. Villa will now have the remainder of the summer to build up energy ahead of next season, as he is set to face a daunting task in his first four games if he wants to avoid dropping further in the ratings: with the plank to beat in those games ranging between 26.58 and 34.58 rating points, the road ahead promises to be anything but easy.
Villa dropped 7 rating points against the U.S. to see his overall rating shrink to 227.25 points. His partner in the Spanish attack, Liverpool’s Fernando Torres, was no luckier against the Americans and lost 10 rating points to see his rating slump to les than 200 points. Torres’ fall in the ratings could also continue, as his plank to beat in the first games in the English Premier League next season will amount to between 20.56 and 48.18 rating points.
