Luis Fabiano Surges to 3rd Place in World Ranking of Forwards

Sevilla striker and Brazil international Luis Fabiano (pictured) wrapped his season with an excellent performance for his country in the Confederations Cup in South Africa, grabbing a double in the final against the U.S. to help the Selecao engineer a comeback from 2 goals down and retain the title they won four years ago in Germany.

Brazil scored 3 goals in the second half after letting a once again vigorous U.S. team pretty much dominate the first half and move 2 goals ahead. But Fabiano began the comeback in the 46th minute when he collected a pass from Ramirez, pivoted and beat courageous U.S. goalkeeper Tim Howard. His second, and tournament-leading fifth, came in the 73rd, when he headed in a rebound off the crossbar after Robinho’s attempt.

Fabiano picked up 30.43 rating points and the title of top scorer of the competition, boosting his tally to 211.23 points, his biggest since we began tracking the forward. He now ranks 1st in the FTBL Top 23 of Brazilian forwards, having finally dislodged Wolfsburg’s Grafite (179.70 points).

The Sevilla striker is also now 3rd in our world ranking of forwards behind Atletico Madrid’s Uruguayan Diego Forlan (271.00 points) and Wolfsburg’s Bosnian Edin Dzeko (253.23 points).
