The German national team’s young talented midfielder Mersut Ozil of Werder Bremen (pictured in a red jersey) managed to retain his spot in the FTBL Top 23 of German midfielders despite a daunting plank to beat by scoring a goal in his country’s 4:0 trashing of England in the final of the U-21 European Championship in Sweden.
Because our system takes into full account only the 5 last games of a player, while the game immediately prior to his last five is multiplied by a coefficient of 0.1, Ozil had a plank of 22 rating points to beat in the final.
By scoring the second of Germany’s 4 goals in the final from a free-kick, the youngster earned a little less than 21 rating points, which allowed him to remain in the “black” and avoid an exit from our Top 23.
Ozil therefore remains in 7th place in the ranking with 78.44 points over all. He is followed by teammate Torsten Frings (69.52 points) in the Top 23 of the Bundesliga.
