Spanish La Liga giants Barcelona appear determined to continue looking for a central defender if efforts to sign their first choice, Shakhtar’s Dmytro Chigrinsky, prove unsuccessful. FTBL.com takes a look at the Catalans’ options.

Among those being considered are Manchester United’s Jonny Evans, Manchester City’s Vincent Kompany, AS Roma’s Brazil international Juan, Inter Milan’s Cristian Chivu, and Villarreal’s Gonzalo Rodriguez, according to Sport.es, a Spanish sports news web site.

The leading central defender in the world at the moment on the FTBL ranking is Brazilian Juan with a tally of 89.53 points. United’s Evans tallies at 74.44 points, while Inter Milan’s Chivu has 71.17 points. With an overall FTBL rating of just 51.13 points, Chigrinsky is clearly not in a leading position at the moment.

Moreover, Evan is 1st among the potential recruits by the average take of rating points per game (8.07 points), followed by Juan (7.75 points) and Rodriguez (7.63 points). But on the +/- indicator so important for a defender, Chigrinsky appears clearly in the lead with +53, while Juan is only 2nd with +26, Kompany is third with +25, and Evans is 4th with +24.
