Real Madrid’s Spain international Iker Casillas (pictured) captured the 3rd spot in the FTBL World Ranking of goalkeepers as he helped the Merengues secure a 3:2 win over Deportivo in their season opener yesterday. The spot was occupied by Manchester United’s Dutch international Edwin van der Sar (116.02 points), who has been sidelined by injury since the beginning of the season.

Thanks to the successful opening to the season, Casillas earned 9.9 rating points in our system, and he has now increased his overall FTBL rating to 118.23 points. Casillas has also snatched the number one spot in the FTBL ranking of goalkeepers in La Liga from Barcelona’s Víctor Valdés (111.52 points).
