Chelsea’s Frank Lampard (pictured left) and Liverpool’s Steven Gerrard (pictured right) were on target yesterday for England as they scored two goals apiece to sink Croatia 5:1 in World Cup 2010 qualifying at Wembley.
The England victory was a kind of retribution for what Croatia did to this very same team in November 2007, when they denied them a berth to the 2008 European Championship.
Lampard’s double allowed him to beat the high plank of more than 36 rating points he had in the game. He has now boosted his overall FTBL rating to 205.54 points and remains the top midfielder in the world on the FTBL chart.
Meanwhile, Gerrard, who had somewhat lost position in our ranking, has returned among the world’s top 3 midfielders after picking up 24.26 rating points in the game. He now has an overall FTBL rating of 155.57 points and trails only Lampard and Barcelona’s Spain international Xavi (170.28 points).
