A Uruguayan player has captured the lead in the FTBL ranking of South American strikers after a long absence, but the player is not last year’s winner of the Golden Boot, Atlético Madrid’s Diego Forlán, but Ajax’s Luis Suárez.

Ajax have scored 7 goals in their last two games, four of them credited to Suárez. Former leader in the FTBL ranking of South American strikers Sevilla’s Brazil international Luís Fabiano could not withstand such competition.

But Fabiano trails the leader by just 1.29 rating points (165.99 points against 165.7 points), and rating points are easier to glean in the Spanish La Liga, which is rated Category 5 in our system, than in the Netherlands league, which is rated Category 3.
