Banfield, the hitherto little-known team from one of Buenos Aires’ suburbs, has now managed 6 straight victories in the Argentine top league and remains at the top of the standings.
After the victory, 3:0 against last year’s title winner Vélez Sársfield, another Banfield player, Victor Lopez (pictured), has vaulted to the top of the FTBL ranking of defenders in the league, while Cristian Lucchetti continues to top a similar ranking of goalkeepers.
Banfield’s successes have allowed Lopez to increase his overall FTBL score from the 34 points he had in mid-August to the current 81.68 points and capture the 3rd spot in our ranking of Argentine defenders. True, Lopez will have a daunting task retaining these gains in the coming 5 games, but who knows what else Banfield are capable of?
