Real Madrid's Argentina international Gonzalo Higuaín (pictured) scored the only goal as the Merengues narrowly defeated Racing Santander at the Santiago Bernabeu (1:0) to capture the # 1 spot in La Liga standings while Barcelona were held 1:1 at Athletic Bilbao.
Higuaín’s successful strike came in the 22nd minute (video) and earned him 11 rating points in the FTBL system to boost his tally to 141.96 points.
Higuaín retained his 6th spot in the FTBL world ranking of midfielders, while reducing the gap with Barcelona superstar Lionel Messi (172.08 points) in our ranking of Argentine midfielders.
Despite the fact that Messi has remained among the top 3 midfielders in the world for 2 straight months now, it cannot be excluded that Higuaín would continue to reduce the gap between the two: his plank to beat in his next match will amount to just 9 rating points, while Messi will have to clear a more challenging plank of 25 rating points.
