The FTBL world ranking of veteran midfielders has a new leader in Villarreal’s Robert Pires: the Frenchman took the lead after picking up 8.01 rating points in the Yellow Submarines’s 3:1 win over Valladolid in La Liga, pushing down the former leader, Hamburg’s former Brazil international Ze Roberto.
Just about a month ago, Pires had an FTBL score of just 35 points. But then Villarreal scored 14 goals in 4 games, with Pires contributing 4. This allowed him to increase his score to the current 92.58 points and to not only grab the lead among veterans, but also join the FTBL Top 23 of French players.
The former France international will have another opportunity to add to that score in the coming game, when Villarreal take on No 7 Sporting Gijón; his plank to beat will amount to just 0.95 rating points. Villarreal won the last 3 encounters against Gijón.
