Manchester United star Wayne Rooney, who lost the top spot in the FTBL ranking of British strikers last weekend, will have a good chance of returning to the top come the weekend.
As United travel to bottom-placed and financially challenged Portsmouth, victory is the least they can expect. True, the statistics shows that Sir Alex Ferguson’s men should not hope for a rout; the last time the Red Devils scored more than 2 goals against Pompey was 3 years ago. Even a modest win, though, has the potential of netting Rooney 13-15 rating points in the FTBL system, and if he can add at least a goal he can even hope to bag 20 rating points. Rooney’s plank to beat in the game is just 1 rating points.
Rooney trails the leader in the ranking of British strikers, Tottenham Hotspur’s Jermain Defoe, by 11.51 points at the moment. Considering that United have a better chance of coming out on top against Portsmouth than Spurs have against Aston Villa, we believe Rooney has all the chances to return to the lead in the ranking.
