The participation of Bordeaux midfielder Yoann Gourcuff in the coming match against Nancy remains under question as reports seem to indicate he is far from being back on track after the injury suffered in France’s World Cup playoff game against Ireland. Ironically, the injury could well turn out to have helped him retain the leadership in the FTBL ranking of French midfielders.
Nancy, as it is, have won every game at home against Bordeaux in the past 3 years. For Gourcuff, another loss will be costly in the ranking; his plank to beat in the game is 10.56 rating points.
In that case Olympique Marseille’s Benoit Cheyrou will need just a draw against RC Lens to rise to the top. If Gourcuff sits out the game against Nancy instead, then even a win might not be enough for Cheyrou to claim the top spot; he will have to “defend” 7.82 rating points in addition to closing the almost 8-point gap with Gourcuff.
