Chelsea’s Cote d’Ivoire international Didier Drogba held on to the top spot in the FTBL ranking of Premier League forwards last weekend. Yet the rise of Manchester United’s England international Wayne Rooney by more than 40 rating points is putting tremendous pressure on the Ivorian star.
With a lead of just 7.59 points over Rooney, Drogba’s combined plank in his next 2 games will amount to a challenging 70 rating points. But after trashing Arsenal 3:0, the Blues (and Drogba in particular) have demonstrated that they can rise to the occasion. All that notwithstanding, we remain reticent to predict another 2 big wins for the Blues, coupled with 3-4 goals form Drogba.
Meanwhile, Rooney will have an easier task, with a combined plank of just 36.03 rating points to beat in his next couple of games. And despite the fact that both games (against West Ham United and Wolfsburg) will be on the road, Rooney appears poised to push aside the Chelsea star.
