Celtic’s 2:0 win over Hapoel Tel-Aviv was not enough to secure qualification to the knockout stage of the Europa League as Hamburg and Parma made sure that did not happen. Yet the win still greatly benefited one player: Greek international Georgios Samaras was able to rise to the top of the FTBL ranking of forwards in the Scottish Premier League.
Samara scored the first goal and was rewarded with 15.52 rating points, the biggest take in his last 10 games. He added 10.83 rating points to his overall score and is now 4.47 rating points ahead of teammate Scott McDonald, the # 2 in the ranking of forwards in the league.
Samara may yet have a hard time holding on to that top spot given that most of his score was built up through games for Greece. Now he will have to earn rating points in the Scottish league, where McDonald is way more successful. Samaras has scored just 3 league goals so far.
