Two straight losses, against French side Bordeaux in the Champions League and Cagliari in the Serie A, have endangered Juventus’ Gianluigi Buffon’s erstwhile comfortable lead in the FTBL ranking of Italian goalkeepers.
With a plank of 14.6 rating points to beat in the next game against Serie A current leaders Inter Milan, whom Juventus have overcome just once in the last 6 games between the two, Buffon can avoid another loss only if he keeps his slate clean. Inter’s current form makes that eventuality quite remote.
Meanwhile, Cagliari’s Federico Marchetti trails Buffon by just 4.32 rating points, which means if Juventus lose to Inter Marchetti will need just a draw against Palermo to overtake his rival. Cagliari have split in their last 9 games against Palermo, which might be an indication Marchetti is about to take the lead.
