The top player in the world at the moment in the FTBL ranking is Valencia striker David Villa with an overall score of 215.96 points, with Manchester United’s England international Wayne Rooney (pictured) 2nd with 194.66 points.
Can Rooney overtake the Spaniard as the football weekend concludes? Rooney reduced the gap with his rival yesterday as he scored a goal in the Red Devils’ trashing of struggling West Ham United 4:0 in front of their home crowd. He has added approximately 50 rating points in his last 2 games alone!
In the meantime, Villa, who will be in action tonight as Valencia take on Athletic Bilbao, will have a hard time avoiding a loss, given his plank to beat in the game is more than 25 rating points. He set the plank with a goal in the win over UD Almería.
A loss tonight to Bilbao could cost Villa the top spot in the ranking, and even a win is not a guarantee: the amount of time the Spain international spends on the pitch will be critical. Yet if the prolific striker scores again tonight, he could retain the top spot even if Valencia lose.
