CSKA Moscow’s win over Turkey’s Besiktas in the group stage of the Champions League yesterday did not just send the Russian side into the knockout stage of the competition, it also helped Czech international Tomáš Necid (right) end the year as the leading striker in the Russian Premier League.
Necid went into the game with a comfortable lead in the FTBL ranking, but a loss could have wiped out that lead, given he faced a plank of 13.5 rating points to beat. Instead, the win allowed him to boost his overall score to 113.2 points.
But Necid will meet a tougher challenge next year, with a combined plank of approximately 65 rating points to beat in his first 4 games. With earnings in the knockout stage of the Champions League potentially very high, Necid has a good chance of beating even that high plank.
