World Ranking of Defenders: Barca’s Alves Rises to the Top, Terry Slides

As we predicted, Chelsea skipper and England international John Terry has lost the top spot in the FTBL world ranking of defenders after the Blues’ 2:2 draw against APOEL Nicosia yesterday at Stamford Bridge. Barcelona now has three players in the first 3 spots of the ranking, with Brazil international Dani Alves (pictured in action) leading the pack with 136.65 points.

Gerard Piqué is in 2nd place with 131.92 points, while Carles Puyol rounds off the trio with 128.04 points. A reshuffle in the ranking after today’s Champions League game between Barcelona and Dynamo Kyiv remains a possibility.

Current leader Alves will go into the game with a plank of approximately 14 rating points to beat in our system, and if he manages to hold on to the top spot after this evening’s game, his lead over Piqué will still shrink. Bookings or the amount of time spent on the pitch could also determine the final tally of each player.

Even Puyol could rise to the top if he scores tonight: he will face a plank of 8.70 rating points to beat.
