FTBL Analysis of the Champions League Group Stage: German Teams Steely; Britons Retreat

With the group stage of the Champions League now history, it is time to draw preliminary conclusions about Europe’s premier club competition. It would be hard to ignore the tenacity and perseverance demonstrated by German sides Bayern Munich and Stuttgart, something that has reflected not just in qualification, but also in the German top league’s overall FTBL score: it has added 95.84 points, while English clubs Chelsea, Liverpool, and Arsenal have contributed to a drop of more than 18 points in the overall FTBL score of the Premier League.

The English Premier League now scores at 2,943.53 points and remains the # 2 league in the world, while the Bundesliga is now 3rd in the ranking with an overall score of 1,712.59 points.

The Spanish La Liga continues to be the highest ranked league in the world with an overall score of 3,204.01 points. Real Madrid, Barcelona, and Sevilla all progressed to the knockout stage and have contributed another 42.54 points to the league’s overall score. The gain could have been bigger had Atlético Madrid not fallen to FC Porto.
