World Top 23: Rooney Poised to Claim Top Spot

Just as we predicted, Manchester United star Wayne Rooney easily cruised past the 200-point mark in the FTBL ranking after the Premier League game against Wolverhampton Wanderers; the 3:0 clear victory, in which he scored a goal, pushed his tally to 213.17 points, just a sliver from the No. 1 in the FTBL World Top 23, Valencia’s Spain international David Villa (218.96 points).

Rooney appears now in a better position than his rival in the contest for the top spot as his plank to beat in the next game will be 13.04 rating points, while Villa faces a plank more than 10 points higher.

Yet, even though the numbers seem to favor him, Rooney might still be hampered by the fact that United play their next game at No. 9 Fulham, where they lost 2:0 the last time around.

Villa, in the meantime, does not seem to be in better position either: Valencia are traveling to Genoa in a Europa League game, and they desperately need a win. In the first game, Valencia achieved a hard-fought victory. The return leg might prove even more troublesome for the Spaniards.
