There was a time when Argentina star Javier Saviola was regarded by many as the new Diego Maradona. But that was long before he slumped into bad form and was forced to flee to the relatively weak Portuguese league. But apparently those who rushed to bury the Argentine were wrong; he has returned to a leading role at Benfica, and had a fantastic goal-scoring run stretching 4 games in December.
Saviola has begun the New Year exactly where he left off, with a goal in the 1:0 win over Rio Ave FC to earn 21.39 rating points in the FTBL system and push his tally beyond 100 points for the first time in our system.
Yet as fantastic as Saviola’s form seems to be at the moment, he remains on a very slippery slope: more than 80% of his current tally of 106.81 points was earned in his last 5 games. That means he will drop dramatically if he fails to score in his next game. But if he extends the goal-scoring run to 6 games, then he is bound to add, irrespective of how Benfica fare.
