Germany international Philipp Lahm lost the lead in the FTBL ranking of defenders in the Bundesliga despite Bayern Munich’s 2:0 win over TSG Hoffenheim. The new leader is Hamburg’s Joris Mathijsen.
Mathijsen added 3.85 points after Hamburg’s home win over SC Frieburg, and that proved enough to demote Lahm. But the German international trails by just 1.27 points.
Both players will have tough tasks in the next round, with Bayern traveling to No. 6 Werder Bremen, while Hamburg go to No.5 Borussia Dortmund. Mathijsen will face a plank of 9.6 points to beat, while Lahm’s plank will be 1.4 points higher. Bayern win more often, while Hamburg concede less often. A favorite is hard to pin here.
