Bordeaux’s Marouane Chamakh (left) will find it hard to retain the top spot in the ranking of forwards in the French Ligue 1. In today’s game against Grenoble, he will face a daunting plank of 27.1 points to beat, while No.2 Gervinho of Lille is just a little more than 1 point behind.
Gervinho will play his next match in the African Nations Cup only next Sunday, which leaves Chamakh’s fate in his own hands.
Grenoble are currently at the bottom of the table, with just 1 win in 20 games. Yet it is worth remembering that Bordeaux managed to score just one goal in each one of their last 3 games against Grenoble.
Such a result will not do the trick for Chamakh this time, even if he scores that goal. For Chamakh to keep the top spot, Bordeaux will have to buck the trend and prove its undeniable higher class this time around.
