Hapoel Tel-Aviv’s Vincent Enyeama helped Nigeria progress to the semi-finals in the African Nations Cup through a penalty shootout against Zambia and rose in the FTBL ranking of African goalkeepers to No. 1. He added 10.46 points in our system to take his overall score to 52.11 points.
This is Enyeama’s first spell at the top of the ranking, although he has been impressive at Hapoel; he helped the Israeli club achieve goalless wins against Rapid Vienna and Hamburg in the Champions League.
Yet even victory in the semi-final against Ghana is no guarantee Enyeama will retain the top spot among African keepers; Egypt goalkeeper Essam El Hadari, the No. 2 in the ranking at the moment, trails by just 3.88 points and will face a plank 11 points lower than Enyeama’s in his semi-final against Algeria. But Enyeama will have a chance at revenge in the final, if both players make it that far.
