Will Messi Retain Top Spot?

Barcelona star Lionel Messi’s 7-game goalscoring run snapped yesterday in the La Liga game against Sporting Gijón, even though the Catalans still walked away with a 1:0 win. Messi missed out on a huge gain in the FTBL system. Can he now sustain his sky-high score?

That could prove very hard. Though Messi on average picks up about 17 points per game, his combined plank to beat in the next 4 games is simply too high, at 185 points. In theory, that means that the Argentine prodigy must drop approximately 100 points in those games.

Even if that materializes, Messi will still be the top-ranked midfielder in the world with a score of 230 points, and maybe the absolute leader as well. In addition, Messi could launch another goalscoring run as early as in the game against Getafe. If he does, his losses will be minimal.
