Talk about a comeback. Atlético Madrid’s Uruguayan striker Diego Forlán is in the midst of one. He scored twice in the first leg of the semi-final in the Copa Del Rey against Racing Santander and picked up more than 30 points. His FTBL score went up 13 points to 164.37 points. And that’s not all. In the coming weeks that score is likely to further increase. Fantasy football team owners should rush to buy him before he increases in value.
In the next game against…Racing Santander Forlán will face a plank of 3 points to beat, and in the next La Liga game that plank will drop further to just 2.23 points. That means his score is likely to further rise. If the match ends in a draw, then expect a modest gain, in the neighborhood of 8-13 points. But another win, coupled with a goal, will yield between 20 and 30 points.
Then there is the second leg of the semi-final. If Atlético win again, well Forlán’s score could soar to 200 points. You do the math, and it’s clear he could be a very productive pick at the moment. True, buying Forlán might backfire if he is rested in the return leg of the semi-final; after all Atlético have one foot already in the final. Buying Forlán now and then selling him after the weekend’s round of games could yield half the cost of a goal.
Forlán is the undisputable leader in the ranking of Uruguayan players and was for a long stretch the top striker in the world last season. He hit a record score of 333.72 points and was the top scorer in La Liga. His re-emergence looks set to lead to a return in the top 23, our list of the world’s top 23 players.
