Beckham in Ecstasy at return to Ibrox

Today Ibrox Stadium in Glasgow will stage a friendly match between Rangers and AC Milan. The match has symbolic significance for David Beckham. Becks passionately wants his current team to repeat Rangers' heroic exploits of last season and reach the final of the UEFA Cup.

Milan's opponents in the last 32 of the tournament will be Werder Bremen.

Beckham has not played in Scotland since 1999, when England beat Scotland at Hampden Park in a qualifying match for Euro 2000. The midfielder remembers that match with pleasure. "We won 2-0. I hope the score will be the same this time".

Beckham's marker in this game will be David Weir. The defender is now 38, but Rangers manager Walter Smith is not concerned about his age. His choice is vindicated by the FTBL ratings, according to which Weir is now the best defender in the Scottish League with 58.28 points.

Weir knows Becks very well from his time at Everton. He also marked him in the above-mentioned qualifying match in 1999. "Many people now see Beckham as a glamorous celebrity and forget that he's a fine player", says Weir. "The second goal in that match was the result of one of his free kicks. And he's achieved a great deal in football in general".

Beckham's own rating is currently only 71.74 points, but it has to be borne in mind that he began to earn rating points only when he went on loan to Milan.
