Schalke 04 has officially announced that its captain, Marcelo Bordon, broke an arm in the game against Werder Bremen last weekend.
The thirty-three-year-old Bordon underwent surgery last Saturday: Four pins were inserted into his broken left arm. Bordon will miss the next game against Bochum. The Serb Mladen Krstajic will replace him.
Shalke currently ranks 4th in the Bundesliga, trailing the leader by 9 points. The absence of Bordon will complicate the battle to earn a slot in the UEFA Cup, since the Brazilian is one of the club’s best defenders, with a rating of 62.12. Krstajic has a rating of 47.64.
