Barcelona keeper Victor Valdez has been a source of all but trouble for his club lately. He has conceded 9 goals only in the last four games, and he displays enormous uncertainty in his game, committing sometimes the most child-like mistakes.

It all began with the match against Betis. Valdez was certainly not to blame for the goals conceded in that game; the defense was clearly more to blame. Nonetheless, Barca was already behind by two goals at halftime. It was a real miracle Barca were able to avoid defeat.

In the match against Espanyol, Valdez committed an unforgivable mistake, handing the ball strait to Ivan de la Pena. The Espanyol striker elegantly lobbed it past Valdez, and the Catalans lost the derby at the Nu Camp by 1-2, a first in 27 years!

The Champions League game against Lyon came next. Juninho Pernambucano, realizing Valdez had advanced too far, lobbed the ball from a free kick right into the top left-hand corner just 7 min into the game. Henry’s efforts were what helped Barca avoid defeat once again in that game.

Finally in the game against Atletico last weekend, Valdez conceded 4 goals! Even taking into account the fact that the whole Barca defense had a miserable evening, conceding 4 goals for a goalie of Valdez’s caliber is rather too much.

Only a few weeks ago Valdez was on the list of best Spanish goalies and had even had a stint in the list of world best goal keepers! But now Valdez has a dismal rating of just 85.85 points and can be found only in the list of best players of the La Liga. He lost 14.90 points just in the last game.
