Manchester United scored a laborious away win when they came from behind to claim 3 points in the game against Newcastle United, with Dmitar Berbatov (pictured on the left) netting the winning goal.
The score sheet was opened 9 minutes into the game by Newcastle’s Peter Lovenkrands after goalie Van der Sar deflected the ball right into his feet after a free kick taken by Jonas Gutierrez. Lovenkrands was once more in the thick of the action a few minutes later, when Nigerian Obafemi Martins took a narrowly missed attempt at the goal from his pass.
Wayne Rooney leveled the game after an assist from Berbatov at the 20th minute. Berbatov once again scored the winning goal for Man United at the 56th minute on an assist from Ji-sung Park. It was Berbatov’s 8th goal of the season, and the Bulgarian international’s rating increased by 11.88 points. He now tops the list of best Bulgarian footballers, with 168.05 points, and makes the list of best Premier League players. His only conquest now remains the Top-23 list.
Newcastle had a good opportunity to level the game when Martins was denied by a just-in-time save by Ferdinand from the line.
The victory put Man United firmly in the lead in the Premier League: the gap between Sir Alex Ferguson’s team and second-place Chelsea amounts now to 7 points, with Man united still with a game in reserve.
