A real revolution has occurred in the FTBL rating: Liverpool midfielder Steven Gerrard has ousted Man United star Cristiano Ronaldo from the throne. Ronaldo’s position at the top seemed unassailable just recently, as he was collecting rating points with unflinching stability match after match and remained at the helm of the Top-23. But Gerrard performed a fantastic feat, adding an incredible 42.02 rating points in the latest round of the English premier League.

The Liverpool star now has 203.90 points. He had a hat-trick in the humiliation of Aston Villa at Anfield Road. Gerrard struck twice from the penalty box before adding a third from a free kick taken like a virtuoso.

But before Gerrard even had his hat-trick, Liverpool had already been ahead by two goals: Dirk Kuyt opened the score after adding on a Xabi Alonso shot that hit the bar. Albert Riera added the second with a shot that also found the bar before finding the net. Liverpool won 5:0 and are now breathing down the neck of leader Manchester United with a just a point behind.

Ronaldo lost almost 25 rating points after United’s lost to Fulham 0:2. He now has 190.31 points and has slipped to behind third place in the FTBL Top-23.
