Bayern Munich are said to be interested in Celtic’s Aiden McGeady.

With their budgets facing deep cuts, the biggest European clubs are more and more setting their sights not on stars but on less illustrious players. Today’s transfer rumor mill, compared with the one of 10 years ago, when heads were spinning at the mention of the names in transfer headlines, seems rather less impressive. Only Real Madrid continue to generate excitement, but only as regards to the future vote of a new club president. In fact, news about the ‘reincarnation’ of the Galacticos could well be construed as a PR stunt by Florentino Peres, who is desperate to remain as club president.

For the German football, where the norm has always been to develop young talents in-house, practicality in the transfer market is nothing exceptional. It looks as if that practicality has reached new heights, including as regards leader of the Bundesliga Bayern Munich.

The only event worth mentioning as regards transfers at the German club is news of interest in the Scottish international and Celtic Glasgow player Aiden McGeady. The 22-year-old midfielder has played 20 games for his team in the current season, scoring just one goal.

Giovani Trappatoni, the current manager of the Scottish national team who also once managed Bayern, seems to have a hand in the whole affair. “Jurgen klinsmann wanted to know my opinion, and I told him that McGeady is one of our most perspective players,” said Trappatoni.

According to the FTBL Ratings agency, McGeady is firmly in the Top-23 of the Scottish Premier League, with 55.03 points, which should translate into a relatively high transfer amount of approximately 1 million euro.
