Barcelona's Argentine international Lionel Messi had a fantastic game this weekend as he scored 3 goals in a 8:0 rout of Almeria in the Spanish Primera, setting an absolute world record for the amount of FTBL rating points earned in a single match — 74.10 points!
The previous all-time record was set precisely one year ago: November 22, 2009, Jermain Defoe of Tottenham Hotspur scored 5 goals in a 9:1 demolition of a woeful Wigan Athletic in the English Premier League, and earned 71.60 points FTBL rating.
Messi became only the fourth Barcelona player to score 100 Spanish league goals after starting the slaughter with his 17th-minute opener followed by goals on 37th and 67th minutes. The reigning FIFA player of the year has 22 goals in 17 games for Barça in all competitions this season and 69 in his last 66 matches for the club.
Despite their biggest away win ever, Barcelona remained second in La Liga behind Real Madrid thrashed Athletic Bilbao 5:1.
