The leader of the ratings in the Argentinean championship is Lanus striker Jose Sand (pictured, right) with 132.85 points. In the last match Sand was simply fantastic – he scored four goals against Independiente, which brought him almost 50 points and kept Lanus at the top of the table.
Nevertheless, Diego Maradona can still not find a place for Sand in the national team – the 29 year-old has played only one match for Argentina, and that was last year, when Alfredo Basile was in charge. In the light of the national team’s recent 6-1 defeat by Bolivia, Maradona ought to be thinking of introducing “fresh blood”.
Lanus thrashed Independiente 5-1, the other goal being yet another for Diego Valeri. The midfielder gained 13.22 points in the match, and entered the Top 23 in the Argentinean championship with 70.09 points.
Another player to significantly improve his rating was former FC Moscow midfielder Maximiliano Morales. He scored the winning goal for Velez Sarsfield in the match against Banfield, his team winning 2-1 to go third in the table. Morales earned 16.46 points in the game, and is now among the best midfielders in the Argentinean championship with 69.44 points.
