Portuguese international and world player of the year Cristiano Ronaldo (pictured in front) was front and center in the Porto–Man United Champions League quarter-final to demonstrate that in football sometimes just one strike can be enough to slay two birds: his killer strike that found the net of Porto goalkeeper Helton netted Man United a 1:0 victory and knocked the Portuguese side out of the ChampionsLeague. Ronaldo has definitely reminded the leaders of the world Top 23 of his threatening presence.
The Portuguese now has a rating of 214.55 points, which has vaulted him to the top of the ranking of midfielders in the world. Ronaldo earned an incredible 30 rating points in the quarter-final game alone. Only VFL Wolfsburg forward Edin Dzeko has a higher rating, with 219.73 points.
The game was another demonstration of Man United’s strategy of always playing first and foremost for the needed result. The goal they scored early into the game allowed them to sit tight and shy away from any further serious attempts at a second. Porto tried their best to come back into the game, but to no avail. As a result, the game turned into a quite boring display. Sir Alex Ferguson’s side nonetheless achieved what mattered most to them: a place in the Champions League semi-finals.
